The Major scale in any key is called the Ionian Mode, and in the case of the C major scale it means you start on the note C and the scale follows Do-Re-Me etc. There are two whole If you keep track from the beginning, of course, it's OK. A mode is formed by taking a scale (such as the C major scale) and instead of beginning on the note C, you start from any other note in the scale and play up to that same note, but an octave higher.
